Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2016, Dad helped me with fundraising for my first London marathon attempt. At the time, he had been battling bowel cancer for 4 years. He been through major surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and we were hopeful that he was free of the disease. I ran in the Bowel and Cancer research (now Bowel Research UK) vest, and between us we raised £10,000, which was almost entirely down to his efforts. I remember as I was running seeing lots of vests of people running 'in memory of' a loved one, and in an emotional moment I said to myself that I would never run in memory of Dad - because he would still be here.

I'm now doing my second London marathon attempt. I didn't want to set up this page, as I still don't want to be running "in memory of" Dad. I won't be wearing the charity vest, as I have a championship place this time and the rules dictate that I must wear my Cornwall Athletics Club vest. But the marathon happens to be on what would be Dad's 75th birthday, and so it seems impossible not to run in his memory. It will be an emotional day. Dad died 5 years ago, in January 2018. He didn't quite reach his 70th birthday, and he has missed seeing his grandchildren growing up.

In preparation, and to get me doing some long runs during the winter months, I also entered the Arc50 - a 50 mile Cornish coast path ultramarathon which I am taking on tomorrow (28/01/2023), from the Minnack Theatre to Porthtowan. Thank you so much for your support.
