Home About Bowels

About Bowels

Our bowels are much maligned and often misunderstood. They are an incredibly important organ within the human body and play a key role in our health and wellbeing.

Tremendous advances are being made and our knowledge is growing about this amazing organ and what it does for us.

From new work on the microbiome and understanding the trillions of bacteria that make us who we are, to understanding the role of the gut and its associated hormones in conditions from obesity to Parkinson’s and the gut/brain communication superhighway, the true wonder of the gut is beginning to dawn on us.

Rather than being a simple organ with a simple function, the gut is now beginning to be understood as a complex moderator of emotional health as well as physical health and is the only organ in the human body that can operate independently of the brain
