Our incredible Mum, Hilary Shanahan was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer at the end of August 2023. She had felt unwell for a few days, then suddenly found herself in hospital with life changing news. She came home on a Friday and told us all, we were naturally all heartbroken, but optimistic that she would be able to start treatment soon. Mum went back into hospital on the Sunday, deteriorated very quickly and by Tuesday she was made comfortable and sadly died a week later. 15 days after her diagnosis. nSpeaking personally, it broke me. Losing one of the most important people in my life in such a cruel and quick way. We barely processed the fact she had cancer and then she was gone.nSo why am I running the London Marathon when I'm not a runner? Why am I running for Bowel Research UK? nWell, Bowel Research UK is funding life-changing research into bowel cancer and other bowel diseases. nEvery year over 16,000 people die from bowel cancer in the UK and over a million suffer from bowel disease. If I can do anything to help, anything that might spare a family what we have been through in the last year, I will do it. nBowel Research UK are the leading specialist bowel cancer and bowel disease research charity and our research is saving and improving lives.nThank you for any donation you can give, it is honestly greatly appreciated and a huge boost! nMum, I know you hated running. I know you'd think it is absolutely HYSTERICAL that I am doing the London Marathon.. but, you're that special, you're that missed and you're that inspirational... I'll do every step for you 🤍
